With respect and not wishing to upset Burgy.
On the City Twitter feed and no doubt on loads of other clubs there is a story from a youngish professional photographer telling his life story and how his equipment was stolen at Fulham FC. He's hoping that good folk will donate an accumulative total of some £8k to enable him to purchase new gear. I'm afraid I don't agree with it.
Is it just me because supposedly I'm old and miserable but I think this is a modern form of "begging"? Surely in this day and age and even years ago if you are a pro. or tradesman you apply some common sense and insure your tools and equipment. It all goes on your tax form.
Back in my aviation photography days I had a reasonably decent camera and always made sure I had insurance just in case I left it sitting on the roof of the car; just like I do nowadays with my walking sticks.
Life can be very hard and there is always someone just around the corner waiting to pounce on unattended property.
Take heed of the terminal and station announcers . . . please don't leave your bags unattended.
Up City!

I know the lad, and he is young & possibly a little naive. He is at university studying photography & is now fully aware of how essential insurance is. In his defence the kit was stolen from a stewarded Photographers room by someone that had earlier stolen a photographers bib (issued by the club) and gained access to what should be a secure area. Even if he had insurance the insurance company would almost certainly not pay out, as it was technically unattended.
I regularly cover Fulham games & I personally never leave my kit in the photographers room (or at QPR or Brentford) but then I am not young anymore!
