Ali McQueen, normally found between the sticks or occasionally at centre half, was sure someone was having a laugh when told he was playing centre forward in an experimental 4-5-1 formation, but 44 seconds after kick off he found himself in the right place at the right time to knock a spill home. 1 - 0.
And it was only five minutes later that City doubled the lead when Damien Arthur took a measured lob over the flailing keeper. A dream start.
Sandhurst dug in to halt City's dominant opening play to create chances of their own, but some season-best movement found Aaron Smith out wide right on his own, time enough to take a touch and then bang it straight over the top of the keeper to go 3 - 0 up. Time to pinch ourselves.
Ten minutes from half time Danny Hunt replaced Matt Farminer in central midfield, due to Matt turning his ankle.
The second half started as the first had finished with end to end movement... centre-backs Shaun Carroway and Luke Glazier with some outstanding defending that was soon turned into probing attacks. Shortly into the 2nd half Jack Rutterford replaced the tiring Ali McQueen up front, followed by a change on the wing with Sean Grogan-Edwards replacing Aaron Smith.
And Jack Rutterford didn't have to wait long for his goal, slotting home a square ball delivered by Jack Holloway's quality run down the left to make it 4 - 0.
And then it began to change, here comes the nail biting finish. Sandhurst send in a long free kick that bounces low in front of goal and after a brief scramble it's in the back of the net. 4 - 1. This was followed only four minutes later as Sandhurst replied again, when a lack of City concentration lead to a weak clearance that was chipped into an empty net.
Sandhurst were clearly boosted by this turn of fortune and took the game to City with their reward being a third goal only five minutes later, working it down the left, squared and knocked in to set up a nervous finish.
Ben Brown in goal kept City in the lead saving a thundering shot, and Sandhursts' penalty claim (handball in the area) was waived away, then their corner cleared as they hunted for the equaliser. No luck tho', 4 - 3 the finish. Well done lads, some great football tonight.
