Youth: GCYFC vs Westfield - result
« Thread Started on Jan 19, 2009, 10:51am »

First home game for the Youth this Weds 21st vs Westfield. k.o. 7:45. Spectators welcomed at The Spectrum as always.

The reverse fixture was played last week and Westfield took the points, winning 2-1 (H/T 1-1).

Scoring his maiden goal for City was midfielder Jack Rutterford from the spot after pacy winger Sean Grogan-Edwards was decked in the area. Congratulations Jack for keeping your nerve against your former club.

Entertaining game from the lads on an otherwise miserable Wednesday night in the rain. Plenty of tempo, end to end, and perhaps could have gone either way. We've a long way to go still but we're definitley an improving side.

Westfield netted first after 15 minutes with a fast break-away attack straight down the middle, 1 on 1 with the keeper for a neat finish.

City replied only 10 minutes later... Aaron Smith attacking down the right hand side, squared in front of the penalty area to Matt Farminer who knocked further wide to the waiting left-midfiled Jack Holloway, 20 yards out smacked it back to the right hand side of the net.

H/T 1-1, and it had been a good display.

15 mins into the 2nd half and City take the lead through forward Joe Smith and a lovely bit of individual display, cutting in from the right, shooting in to the bottom left. But the lead is short lived for Westfield equalise soon after, 2-all.

The tempo didn't let up with both sides sensing a win could be on the cards, but Westfield broke City's heart only five minutes from time with a blistering attack down the left hand side. F/T 2-3 to Westfield.

A shame not to get anything out of the game but very encouraging to see our lads progress.
