 Youth: Fleet Town 3 - 2 GCYFC
« Thread Started on Nov 11, 2008, 8:32am »

Next up for the Youth is away to Fleet Town in the Southern Youth League.... Wednesday 12th Nov, k.o. 7:45. Supporters always welcomed.

Improving City Youth narrowly lost 2-3 to Fleet in the reverse fixture a few weeks back, so tomorrow night we'll be looking to improve on that.

Then, next week on the 19th, at home vs Woking Youth in the 2nd round of the County Cup - a massive test ;D

Awww dagnabbittt... they beat us 3-2 again!

Both sides started very brightly, early corners at both ends but it was City through Damien Arthur that took the lead after only 10 minutes, firing into the bottom left corner from wide right.

Ten minutes later Fleet equalised with some aerial ping pong headering in the area finally looping it's way over City keeper Ali McQueen.

Half time 1-all, and the restart saw Mark Claydon replace the ailing Jack Holloway on the right wing. Fleet soon took the lead with a clever bit of football dead center of goal, the final ball delivered as a lob.

Ten minutes later a somewhat soft free kick was given just inside City's half, out to City's left. As the players shuffled goalwards the kick was taken and dropped just short of the far upright, begging to be slammed home into the opposite top net, 3-1.

Midfielder Aaron Haslett then made way for forward Ben Pilgrim, and the change of formation brought City alive. On 70 minutes Mark Claydon cut in more central, won his personal battle and was quickest back on his feet to chip the onrushing keeper. 3-2.

Sam Howard then made way for Ketch Davey and for the last 20 City were in the ascendency with a deserved draw looked likely, but Fleet clung on well to take all three points.

In general an encouraging display from our lads who know how to string it together. Let's hope the spirit displayed in the last 20 of this game is taken forward to the Woking game at home next week.
