An emphatic Guildford City Youth display saw off Ryman Youth side Tooting & Mitham United tonight with a well deserved 2 - 0 win. A determined team display by all on the pitch, capped by goals from Aaron Smith (header in from corner) and Luke Glazier (great individual battle with three defenders before poking away). Battling midfield, pacy tricky wingers and excellent too from the back line, keeping the clean sheet.
Great entertainment, well done lads.

Hi Chris, one for the next home match day program, many thanks.
15th October 2008 Guildford City Youth 2 – 0 Tooting & Mitcham United Youth Floodlit Midweek Youth County Cup Round 1
Jubilant City belied their league results by brushing aside higher-league opponents in this entertaining first round County Cup fixture at The Spectrum.
City started the brighter and took the game to Tooting & Mitcham with much of the early possession and the only team to get shots on goal. However the visitors soaked up the onslaught and by mid first half the game had levelled out more evenly marked by the visitors first shot on goal (wide) after twenty minutes of play.
City's response to this foray into their own half was immediate; Mark Claydon sending one over the crossbar followed by Aaron Smith knocking just wide, and then winger Sean Grogan-Edwards saw his effort cleared off the line having beaten the keeper. The effort paid off half an hour in and City took the lead. Grogan-Edwards' corner floated in to be met by Aaron Smith in the area, heading down and in.
Tails up, good football flowed from City. A quick one-touch movement from Jack Holloway through to Claydon then reaching Damien Arthur finalising in a rasping shot for the keeper who did a great job in parrying away typified the entertaining football now on display, but it wasn't all one-way with left-back Michael Cunningham called up to defend hard in particular.
After the break City's domination didn't let up and soon the lead was extended. Another City attack drew out some close defending by Tooting & Mitcham, but centre-forward Luke Glazier was superb in keeping the ball at his feet in close-contact to poke home for City's second.
For a brief while the game got physical with both Glazier and Holloway taking notable damage. City had their chances to go further ahead such as Holloway's lovely mazy run down the right finished with an unexpected square across the face of goal but the strikers' shot once again was cleared off the line by a retreating defender. Glazier, Niall Campbell and Claydon all had good shots on goal but to no avail.
Generally the back line of Niall Campbell, Shaun Carroway, Jamie Whittaker and Michael Cunningham held steadfast to record for themselves a deserved clean sheet, but City goalkeeper Ali McQueen was called upon for some brave goal keeping as Tooting & Mitcham pressed ever more for a goal.
The visitors probed harder so it was time for City's substitutes. Sam Howard replaced the battling Aaron Smith in centre-mid, and midfielder Ketch Davies replaced striker Mark Claydon, allowing Damien Arthur to move up from midfield to a more attacking role. “Damo” soon produced a shot from which a corner was won, and that corner was met by a powerful header to ricochet off the crossbar.
Tooting & Mitcham pushed to the final whistle, and their free kick in the final minutes had danger written all over it until McQueen put safe hands on it. But 2 - 0 to City it finished, lining up a 2nd round tie with Woking at The Spectrum on the 17th November.
