What a game played in front of quite a crowd - I'd love to know the attendance!
Anyway, as for the game, Woking won 1-0, and that goal came 15 minutes from time. A peach of a shot, 25 yards outs into the top right - take nothing away form it - but it had to take something extra ordinary to get past our boys because the defending had been first rate.
To be fair, as you would expect the much faniced home side dominated most of the proceedings, leaving City to defend deep and catch Woking on the break. But that was fine, we soaked them up time and again and then countered quickly on the break to put all hearts in mouths.... Niall Campbell and Damien Arthur in particular causing the Woking keeper to react sharply.
After the interval it looked like Woking had been told to shoot at every opportunity, test the keeper and take advantage of the greasy surface because more was coming in from afar instead of trying to play the ball into the 6 yard box which City had contained well throughout the first half. As time ticked on City gained a little more ground, more posession, more attempts on goal... and so more strectched and the more open game resulted in Woking's goal. Ali McQueen in the City goal had impressed all evening, without doubt, but even his diving outstretched hand could not stop that thumping rocket - gob smacked.
Despite our lads being very disappointed at the result, it was a pleasing display from our somewhat raw, new team, and they should take a lot of encouragement from this.
Next up... away to Ashford Town (Middx) on Weds 27th Aug. Many thanks to everyone who came down to watch tonight, it didn't disappoint in the least.

Well done to the young lads, there is no shame in a 0-1 loss at Woking. Will definitely try and make a few games this season.

A good account of this match on the Woking FC website. An excellent performance from the City boys - could have pulled off a shock win had it not been for the Woking keeper, and a terrific shot and goal from the Woking forward.
